About Us

Cathy Cliffe and Helen Butterworth are a daughter and mother team with a passion for providing delicious home-cooked food. From their base in Leicester, they work with a team of dedicated staff, who pride themselves on producing high quality, fresh and tasty home-made food.

Cathy formed Sugar and Spice, children's party food specialists, in November 2006. Following the success of Sugar and Spice, Helen joined the company and they expanded the business into catering for business functions, weddings, funerals and celebrations through Peppercorn Catering.

In April 2008 the two businesses officially merged and now run under the Peppercorn Catering name.

In August 2010 Peppercorn Catering launched their first retail outlet ‘Peppercorns’ with a deli, cafe and cake shop in Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire.  In April 2011 Peppercorn Catering moved to new premises in Anstey, Leicestershire, where the second deli, cafe and cake shop was opened.

We have a strict recycling policy. Any containers which can't be recycled go to our local school, as do our egg shells which are used as slug prevention in the school's eco-tunnel.

We re-use all of our platters and lids - in fact for our invaluable washer-upper, it is almost a full-time job!

Bread crusts are offered free through the shops as 'duck bread'! Fruit and vegetable waste goes into our ever-expanding compost bin.

We also try to use local suppliers wherever possible to try and keep our carbon emissions to a minimum.  Our free-range eggs are from Stoney Stanton, we use Leicester ham (provided by Langton's Butchers in Glenfield), and many of our deli products are locally sourced (please see shop websites for an up-to-date list of stock).
